Sustainable Tourism

When organising an NZ walk, we know it’s the little things that count and our carefully chosen walk partners around New Zealand appreciate this too. We have selected only outfitters whom are approved DOC concessionaires and those that have the same values as ourselves! Sustainable tourism and protecting the environment around us are paramount.

We have given our support to Tourism New Zealand's Tiaki promise and are committed to Sustainable Tourism within NZ’s Tourism Industry Association. "The Tiaki Promise is a commitment to care for New Zealand, for now and for future generations. New Zealand is precious, and everyone who lives and travels here has a responsibility to look after it."

We are strong advocates of recycle, reduce and reuse in our everyday lives. As an online travel agency our footprint is already minimal but we continue to strive to minimize this in our daily operations. Our office systems are cloud based and paperless.

We support many local conversation projects and initiatives, including giving an annual donation to Picton Dawn Chorus. Picton Dawn Chorus is an Incorporated Society, set up by a group of passionate Picton residents with the aim of controlling introduced predators in order to restore our native bird life. The Society is committed to using humane and environmentally sensitive methods of predator control.

We’ve also volunteered some time planting trees for the Koru Native Wildlife Centre based in Grovetown, just a short drive away from New Zealand Walks' base in Picton. Koru Native Wildlife Centre specialises in breeding and raising some of New Zealand’s threatened native species and growing native plants to provide a natural biodiversity for the wildlife and a cleaner and healthier environment for all of us to live in. On a paddock (about 4000 square metre) next to the wildlife centre they have started growing a super dense forest in the fastest possible way. This will not only create a forest in a matter of just a few years but will also provide excellent shelter for the native wildlife such as geckos and skinks. By planting lots of different kind of native plants that are indigenous to this area, at a space of about 50 cm from each other, they will create a fast growing forest with a rich biodiversity.

We have achieved the Silver Award from Qualmark which recognises sustainable tourism businesses in New Zealand, confirming our commitment to sustainable tourism.
