Discover the Beauty of Queen Charlotte Sound: Kayak and Hike Combo Adventure
Day One: Arrive into Picton and check into your four star motel accommodation for your two night stay.
Day Two: Embark on an unforgettable adventure from Picton Harbour, heading toward the stunning western end of Queen Charlotte Sound. This remote area is less traveled, offering tranquil bays, sheltered coves, and abundant wildlife to encounter along the way.
Your day begins with a detailed safety briefing, preparing you for an exciting combination of sea kayaking and hiking. Set off on your guided kayak tour through the picturesque western arm of Queen Charlotte Sound. In no time, you'll be gliding along the shoreline, spotting rays, sea birds, and learning about the lush native bush that thrives along the water's edge.
After a few hours of kayaking, you’ll return to Ngakuta Bay where your guide will provide instructions for the next part of your journey: the hike along the Link Pathway to Picton. This 3-4 hour walk takes you through stunning bush with panoramic views of the Sound.
As you hike, you’ll be immersed in the area’s history, passing through sections of an old bridle path built by early settlers and miners in the 1860s. You’ll also come across remnants of WWII signal stations, adding an intriguing historical layer to the experience. The Link Pathway, a hidden gem created by dedicated volunteers, offers a unique and peaceful way to experience this spectacular landscape.
Expect to return to Picton around 4:30 pm, having enjoyed a truly memorable day of exploration in one of New Zealand’s most beautiful regions before returning back to your motel for the night.
